Uzbekistan resumed gold exports in July after a pause, shipping $1.3 billion worth of the precious metal abroad, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.

International trade turnover for January–July totaled $49.5 billion, up 8.1% from the same period last year. Exports fell 3.6% to $19.9 billion, while imports rose 17.8% to reach $29.6 billion.

The trade deficit over the seven-month period stood at roughly $9.7 billion.

Excluding gold, merchandise exports reached $9.8 billion — a 27.7% increase year-on-year.

Textile exports for January–July totaled $1.9 billion, accounting for 9.5% of total exports, with shipments up 26.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

Gold exports resume after hiatus

In July, Uzbekistan exported $1.3 billion worth of gold, bringing total gold shipments since the start of the year to more than $2.8 billion.

Gold's share of total exports nearly tripled downward, falling to 14.1%. During the same period last year, gold accounted for 36.7% of exports, with shipments reaching $7.6 billion — $4.8 billion, or 2.7 times, higher than this year's figure.

At the same time, other export categories gained ground: services accounted for 36.8% of total exports, up from 26.2% a year earlier; industrial goods rose to 14.4% from 11.3%; and various finished goods increased to 8.4% from 4.3%.

Uzbekistan recorded gold exports only twice in 2026 — in April and July. Before that, the country's last gold shipment abroad was in September 2025, worth approximately $1.5 billion.
