The Embassy of Bangladesh in Uzbekistan celebrated the Bangla New Year 1432 in a colorful manner on 14 April 2025 at the Embassy premises. The occasion-widely known as ‘Pahela Baishakh’ being the first day of the first month of the Bangla calendar-is celebrated across Bangladesh, joined by the people from all walks of life, making it one of the biggest festivals in the country.

In marking this joyous festival, the Embassy hosted a seminar titled “Bangladesh-Uzbekistan Relations: Prospects and Opportunities for Tourism Collaboration”, which was participated by the dignitaries involved in the Uzbek tour, travel and hospitality sectors. Bangladesh Ambassador to Uzbekistan Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam, in his welcome remarks, greeted the audience with wishing them best on this happy occasion of the Bengali New Year and hoped for a new beginning in the ever-expanding Bangladesh-Uzbekistan ties, with renewed spirit and substance. He highlighted various aspects of the historical, cultural and religious connections shared by the peoples of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, adding that these have been playing a crucial role in developing and flourishing tourism sector cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador expressed that tourism does not only strengthen the bonds of friendship and friendship between the peoples of the two countries but also eventually contribute towards expanding trade, investment, academic and cultural exchanges. He invited the attending guests to visit Bangladesh to explore and enjoy its natural and cultural beauty, diversity and richness.

Abu Sufian, Editor of  Bangladeshi Travel magazine, Vromon and a television personality, spoke online, presenting  tourist attractions of Bangladesh, including one of the world’s longest unbroken sandy sea beaches, known as Cox’s Bazar and world’s biggest mangrove forests, Sundarban. Professor Nargiza Abduvohidovna of the Tourism Faculty of the Tashkent University of Economy also spoke at the event, describing popular tourist destinations including the sites of Imam Bukhari (RA) and Bahauddin Naqshbandi (RA), which could be attractive tourist destinations for the Bangladeshi travelers. This was followed by an interactive session, which became lively with the active and spontaneous participation of the audience.

In the second segment of the celebration, an enthralling cultural performance was staged with popular patriotic and folk dances of Bangladesh. The national sports of Bangladesh- Kabadi-played by the students of the University of Uzbekistan added joy to the festivity. At the beginning of this episode, Ambassador Dr. Islam shed lights on the history of the introduction of the Bangla New Year, underlining its significance in Bangla culture and tradition. Terming it a celebration of color and vigor, friendship and fraternity as well as unity and solidarity, he called upon everyone to play a role from their respective positions in building a peaceful, stable and prosperous world, imbued with the essence of ‘Pahela Baishakh’. Ambassadors and diplomats of different countries based in Tashkent, dignitaries from the academic, business, cultural and media circles of Uzbekistan as well as members of Bangladeshi expatriates living in Tashkent attended the event.
