On January 23, the Alisher Navoi National Library hosted the opening of the exhibition "Romanian Writers in the Photo Studios of Their Time" and a poetry evening dedicated to the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. These events were timed to coincide with the Day of National Culture of Romania, which is celebrated on January 15.
This date also marked the birth of the national poet of Romania, Mihai Eminescu (a romantic poet who lived in between 1850-1889), whose works have become masterpieces of Romanian and world culture.
The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan with the support of the Alisher Navoi National Library, in partnership with the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Bucharest. It presents exhibits from the archive of the National Museum of Romanian Literature. The exhibition includes 20 photographs of Romanian writers of the 19th-20th centuries. The exhibition will be open in the library foyer until January 31, 2025. Admission is free.
Deputy Director of the National Library of Uzbekistan, Sabir Dzhampulatov noted the library's contribution to strengthening the Uzbek-Romanian friendly ties. In his speech, the Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan H.E. Daniel Cristian Ciobanu emphasized that the development of bilateral relations with Uzbekistan is one of Romania's priorities in the Central Asian region. According to him, Romania pays great attention to cooperation with Uzbekistan in all areas, including culture, as a bridge that can best bring our peoples closer together. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan for excellent cooperation. After the exhibition vernissage, a poetry evening was held in the World Literature Hall of the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan, where Uzbek writer Sherzod Ortikov presented his essay "The Singer of Love" dedicated to the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu, as well as some poems by Mihai Eminescu translated into Uzbek.
In recent years, the National Library of Uzbekistan has already organized three exhibitions about Romania, namely in 2022 the exhibition "Romania's Contribution to the World Cultural Heritage" and the exhibition "George Enescu. In Memory of the Outstanding Romanian Composer", and in 2023 the exhibition "Romanian Diplomacy and the Great Union of Romania". These events were a great success among visitors and received positive coverage in the Uzbek media and social networks, thereby contributing to the formation of a positive image of Romania, Romanian culture and civilization at the level of public opinion in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
