Shavkat Mirziyoyev will deliver a speech at the general debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York and attend the first meeting of the leaders of the US and Central Asian countries in the C5+1 format.

On September 12, Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov met with Russian Deputy Minister of Transport Dmitry Zverev. According to the Ministry of Transport, the parties reviewed bilateral cooperation in the field of transport and logistics.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend the Central Asian Summit and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Summit in Dushanbe on September 14-15. This was announced by president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov.

The U.S. Embassy Tashkent welcomed 25 American English teachers this week to begin 10-month teaching and professional development programs throughout Uzbekistan, joining local teachers to provide direct classroom instruction to students.

U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.) introduced legislation on September 7 to repeal the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan and grant the three Central Asian states permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) status.

The approved Uzbekistan-2030 strategy envisages increasing gold mining by 1.5 times, silver and uranium mining by 3 times, and copper production by 3.5 times. It is planned to increase the power supply to 120 billion kWh, and the volume of natural gas production to 62 billion cubic meters.

All zebra crosswalks across roads with two or more lanes in each direction will be equipped with traffic lights controlled by a button. This is provided for by the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, approved by Shavkat Mirziyoyev by  his Sep. 11 decree.

The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov commented the expected rise of power and gas prices. He clarified that the government plannned  to raise rates only for enterprises, not households. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of maintaining a steady and reliable power supply for the public.

Investment, Industry and Trade Deputy Minister Oybek Khamrayev today met with the Korean Deputy Minister for Trade Jeong Dae-jin at the Lotte Hotel Seoul, where they signed the Uzbekistan-Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF) agreement.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed decree on September 11 approving the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy. The decree states that it had been developed “based on the experience acquired during the implementation of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy and following public discussion”.

Uzbekistan does not recognize the elections in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic that took place on September 9, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Dust storm hit Tashkent, with Air Quality Index topping 112, which makes the capital of Uzbekistan the most polluted air quality city in the world right now. It also means that such air is harmful to vulnerable groups.

Uzbekistan and the Korea Republic have settled the Uzbekistan’s debt as part of the Ustyurt gas chemical complex joint project, the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance said.

Remediation work at legacy uranium mining sites in Uzbekistan is under way, bolstered by a €9 million grant from the Environmental Remediation Account for Central Asia (ERA)­ set up on the initiative of the European Union (EU) and managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This is the second Central Asian state, where such remediation activity under the ERA is taking place.
