Uzbekistan completed provision of technical assistance to restore the Mawlana Jalaluddin Balkhi international airport in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.
The ceremony marking the completion took place on 25 October, which was attended by Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev, Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov, officials of the Uzaviatsia Agency, the Uzaeronavigatsia Center, Uzbekistan Airports, Uzhydromet and other structures, UzA reported.
Earlier in November last year, Uzbekistan, at the request of the Afghan authorities, sent a technical group of 30 people to help reconstruct the airport. Uzbek experts carried out work in several areas at once - the repair of air navigation and meteorological equipment, the reconstruction of the runway, as well as the restoration of the airport's power supply.
At the event, a document was signed on the commissioning of airport facilities and the acceptance of equipment for restoration of its activities.
The Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, expressed confidence that the restoration of the Mazar-i-Sharif airport would contribute to the economic development of Afghanistan.
Deputy Foreign Minister of the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai expressed gratitude to the President and people of Uzbekistan.
