Uzbekistan Railways has announced an international tender for purchase of 34 modern electric trains, the Ministry of Transport said.

The tender, the acceptance of bids will last until November 29, also provides for the supply of equipment necessary for the maintenance of trains and the training of personnel for the development of suburban passenger traffic.

Reportedly Uzbekistan Railways is now negotiating the renewal of rolling stock with Stadler, Skoda, Talgo, Hyundai, CAF, Siemens, Alstom, Hitachi, Pesa and CRRC-Dalian.

After the purchase of 34 electric trains, Uzbekistan Railways is planning to launch services on 8 new routes:

  • Tashkent-Jizzakh;
  • Tashkent-Keles;
  • Navoi-Bukhara;
  • Samarkand-Jizzakh;
  • Samarkand-Shakhrisabz;
  • Samarkand-Karshi;
  • Andijan-Khanabad;
  • Nukus-Khiva.

In addition, additional trains are scheduled to be launched on 10 existing routes:

  • Tashkent-Khojakent;
  • Tashkent-Angren;
  • Namangan-Andijan;
  • Kokand-Andijan;
  • Tashkent-Gulistan;
  • Tashkent-Bekabad;
  • Termez-Sariasia;
  • Karshi-Bukhara;
  • Bukhara-Khiva;
  • Samarkand-Bukhara.

Thanks to the launch of services on new routes and the organization of additional traffic on existing routes, traffic is expected to increase up to 22.4 million passengers per year (including 6 million on new routes).
