Authorized representatives of the special services of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan held talks on the situation on the state border of the two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The incident that took place on August 21 on Aral Paygambar island (Surkhandarya province), involving the illegal crossing of the border of Uzbekistan by citizens of Afghanistan, was discussed.
“During the meeting, it was recognized that both sides had committed violations, which led to tensions in the area,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The incident is currently being thoroughly investigated.
“Uzbekistan expresses its condolences to the families of the two victims, provides all necessary medical assistance to the six wounded, and completes the procedure for preparing the detainees to return to their homeland,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“Both sides reiterated their firm commitment to peace and the resolution of all existing issues on the basis of the interests of each other and mutual respect,” the Foreign Ministry assured.
Last night, the Border Troops of the State Security Service reported that a group of 24 Afghan citizens moored at the Aral Paygambar Island on Amu Darya in Surkhandarya. They resisted the border guards of Uzbekistan and were detained.
