Today, the Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov hosted the chief of the Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Vladimir Misev.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, the parties reviewed the bilateral ties in the framework of preparing and holding a referendum on amendments and addenda to the Constitution of Uzbekistan.
The NAM delegation was briefed in detail about the key aspects of the planned constitutional reform. Vladimir Norov especially noted that the amendments to the Constitution were aimed at implementing the main principle - "In the name of the honor and dignity of a person."
He emphasized that the new Constitution should create a solid legal basis, a guarantee of Uzbekistan’s long-term development strategy.
ODIHR representatives reportedly expressed their readiness to actively cooperate with the Uzbek authorities in preparing and holding the planned referendum in line with national legislation and generally accepted international standards.
