Spain is planning to set up a permanent diplomatic mission in Tashkent and later open an embassy, announced the Interim Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov, the Foreign Ministry said.

Reportedly, yesterday, on June 27, Vladimir Norov hostved the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Uzbekistan (stationed in Moscow) Marcos Gómez Martínez.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the ways to step up the Uzbek-Spanish political dialogue, organization of visits at various levels, strengthening cooperation within international institutions, continuation of consultations on Afghanistan.

Marcos Gómez Martínez noted that Spain considered Uzbekistan a key country in the region and supported the ongoing reforms in the country. They also discussed the opening of branches and vocational training centers of Spanish universities in Uzbekistan, the involvement of Spanish specialists and teachers in Uzbekistan.

On June 27, Ismatulla Ergashev, the President's Special Envoy for Afghanistan, also met with the Spanish Ambassador to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and assistance to the country.
