Incident with the use of firearms occurred on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border on Tuesday, the press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan said.
According to provisional information, in Deyres village, Aksy district, Jalal-Abad province, several citizens of Kyrgyzstan tried to illegally smuggle cargo on horseback into Uzbekistan.
Being 500 meters from the state border line in Uzbekistan, they were revealed by the border guards of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The smugglers did not obey the demands of the Uzbek border guards to stop.
“During the detention of civilians, a scuffle ensued. In order to save their lives and health, the border guards of Uzbekistan used weapons, as a result of which two citizens received gunshot wounds incompatible with life. The rest of the perpetrators managed to escape on the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the border guards of Uzbekistan, the citizens of Kyrgyzstan tried to smuggle a contraband cargo worth more than 20 thousand US dollars.
As it turned out later, the dead citizens came from Uzbekistan, but in 2012 they obtained citizenship of Kyrgyzstan. According to preliminary information, they kept their Uzbek passports with them.
On the same day at 17.55, a meeting was held between the border officials of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, who went to the scene of the incident to study the circumstances of the incident.
