The President approved the amendments to the Civil Code on March 29. the Ministry of Justice said. In accordance with the changes, the government shall fully compensate for the damage caused by the prosecutor's office and the court during the pre-investigation check, inquiry, preliminary investigation, prosecution and trial, any torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
On March 17, the Senate approved the amendments introducing a system of compensation for victims of torture in Uzbekistan.
The amendments provides for the provision of social, legal, psychological and medical assistance to victims of torture, as well as compensation for harm caused to them, including physical and moral harm, material damage or lost profits, legal assistance, reimbursement of expenses for medicines and medical care, psychological assistance and social services.
The bill was adopted in 2021 by the MPs of the Legislative Chamber.
