President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the President-elect of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the presidential press service said.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the son of the incumbent president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, won 72.9% of the vote in the elections held on March 12.
Early elections in Turkmenistan were announced in mid-February after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking to the Halk Maslakhaty, said that he intended to focus on his activities as chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, and that it was big time to give way to young leaders.
In January, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was in Tashkent on a working visit as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. Then he handed Shavkat Mirziyoyev a written message from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in which he highly valued the Turkmen-Uzbek relations, which are dynamically developing in all area.
