The government plans to harshen penalties for drunk driving. According to Article 131 of the of Administrative Responsibility Code, driving vehicles by drivers in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication entails a fine of twenty-five basic values (BV=240 thousand soums) with deprivation of right to drive from 1 year 6 months to 3 years.
In addition, the same offense committed by a person who does not have the right to drive vehicles entails the imposition of fine of forty basic values or fifteen days of administrative arrest.
According to Olimjon Saidov, head of the traffic safety department, amendments are to be made changes to the above article.
“If the relevant regulation is signed by the head of state, then driving vehicles by drivers in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication entails a fine with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 5 years,” he said during his speech to the MPs.
An offense committed by a person who does not have the right to drive vehicles entails the imposition of a fine of 50 BVs.
Also, at present, the evasion of drivers of vehicles from passing, in accordance with the established procedure for examination for the state of alcohol, drugs or other intoxication, entails a fine of 15 BVs with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle from 1 year 6 months to 3 years. The Ministry of Internal Affairs for this offense proposes to deprive the right to drive a vehicle for 3 years.
