As of January 1, 2021, the number of printed newspapers in the country stood at 366, while in 2010 the number was at 649, the State Statistics Committee said in a report.
In particular, in 2011 and 2015 it increased by 11. The years 2018-2019 were very difficult for newspapers - 129 publications ceased their activities.
At the end of the last billing period - 2019-2020, 94 newspapers closed.
The number of newspapers over the years has changed as follows:
- in 2010 - 649;
- in 2011 - 658;
- in 2012 - 637;
- in 2013 - 602;
- in 2014 - 609;
- in 2015 - 620;
- in 2016 - 606;
- in 2017 - 602;
- in 2018 - 589;
- in 2019 - 460;
- in 2020 - 366.
Over the past 10 years, the number of newspapers has almost halved. Especially the rate of closing newspapers has increased in recent years.
