On January 10, another telephone conversation took place between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the presidential press service said in a statement.

“The heads of state exchanged views on the current state of bilateral ties and upcoming joint events. President Tokayev spoke about the current situation in Kazakhstan and the measures taken by the government to stabilize the situation in the country. The Uzbek leader once again expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery to the victims,” the statement added.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly expressed confidence in the soonest restoration of peace and stability on the fraternal land of Kazakhstan.

Prior to that, the presidents of the two countries spoke on the phone on January 6 - after protests in Kazakhstan against the rise in prices for liquefied gas which escalated into riots.

On January 10, Kazakhstan declared a nationwide mourning for those killed in the riots.
