Sogdiana Trans (a Uzbekistan Railways subsidiary) plans to increase the volume of cargo transportation from Afghanistan, including to the CIS countries, the company said.

Sogdiana Trans was established in December 2011 to operate and maintain the Hairaton-Mazar-i-Sharif railway line in Afghanistan. In November 2010, Uzbekistan Railways completed the construction of a 75 km line worth of $ 129 million.

In the near future Sogdiana Trans plans to transport 99 more loaded wagons of Afghan goods to Uzbekistan and 45 wagons to Kazakhstan.

Reportedly, this year, 32.4 thousand tons (564 wagons) of various cargoes (dried fruits, potatoes, tangerines and talcum powder) were transported from Afghanistan by rail. While, 13.8 thousand tons were exported to Kazakhstan - nearly 16 thousand tons, to Russia - 2.57 thousand tons.

The company added that over the ten years of activity, Sogdiana Trans delivered about 28 million tons of cargo along the Hairaton-Mazar-i-Sharif road to Afghanistan and in transit to other countries.
