Samarkand International Airport will start servicing domestic and international flights from December 10, the Uzbekistan Airports said.

Reportedly, to date, the new airfield complex project was fully completed, which includes a new 3105 m-long and 60 m-wide runway, new taxiways and an apron for 24 aircraft stands.

Modern energy-saving lighting equipment and an ICAO 2nd category landing system have been installed at the airfield,” the company added.

The construction of the airport complex is ongoing and was planned to be completed this fall.

Samarkand airport was closed on October 20 due to preparations for the commissioning of the new airfield , with flights temporarily diverted to other airports in Navoi, Bukhara and Karshi, from where a transfer was organized for passengers to Samarkand.

Samarkand Airport was built in 1967. For the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand in 2022, it was decided to rebuild it. The new terminal is being built by Enter Engineering. The airport will be operated by the foreign company Air Marakanda.
