Uzbekistan has not received any proposals from the members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in relation to the situation in Afghanistan, said the President’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov at a briefing today.
He added that he was not aware of the change in the CSTO’s stance in relation to the events taking place in the north of Afghanistan.
“There were no changes. In general, according to the Uzbekistan’s foreign policy concept adopted in 2012 and the Defense Law, as you all know perfectly well, no foreign military bases may be deployed in Uzbekistan, we also cannot join any military-political blocs,” the president's press secretary recalled.
Sherzod Asadov added that since July 3, Afghan military and "armed individuals" have tried on several ocassions to cross the border of Uzbekistan. Their total number has reached 150 people.
“After all the investigation in accordance with international law, they were returned to their homeland. Currently, there is not a single citizen of Afghanistan on the territory of Uzbekistan who is in the country illegally,” he underscored.
“The inviolability of our borders cannot be questioned, we will not allow their illegal crossing,” Sherzod Asadov stressed.
He emphasized that the current clashes are totally Afghanistan’s internal affairs. “We are in favor of not getting involved in this,” he concluded.
