On July 9, the Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The parties discussed the Uzbek-Russian ties and exchanged views on regional security, including on the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.
Additional measures to enhance stability and security in Central Asia were also discussed during the talks.
Kamilov and Lavrov also discussed preparations for future joint events, including the meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Dushanbe on July 13-14 and a conference in Tashkent on July 15-16 “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Threats and Opportunities. ”
Earlier, the Russia's foreign minister expressed concern that fighting in Afghanistan could spread to Tajikistan.
