On June 25, the Deputy PM/Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade S.Umrzakov hosted the Chairman of Sughd province of Tajikistan R. Ahmadzoda.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues of multifaceted Uzbek-Tajik tiesw, focusing on inter-provinces ties and cooperation in the field of agriculture, and expressed readiness to expand the portfolio of investment projects in the agro-industrial sector.
Prospects for deepening cooperation in the field of agriculture were discussed. Significant potential for mutual supply of fruit and vegetable products and agricultural crops was noted. Extensive opportunities for the implementation of joint projects for the creation of modern greenhouses and intensive gardens with a drip irrigation system for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables were highlighted.
During the talks, the head of the Tajik delegation noted the high interest in introducing the experience of Uzbekistan in the development of the textile industry in Tajikistan on the basis of the cluster approach. He expressed readiness to establish direct cooperation with leading Uzbek textile producers, with a view to creating high-tech production facilities.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of silk and leather footwear industry. The parties agreed to formulate concrete proposals for the establishment of silk processing plants and production of leather and footwear products in Sughd province with the participation of businesses from Tashkent province of Uzbekistan in the near future.
It was noted the importance of establishing direct cooperation between agricultural educational and scientific institutions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in order to exchange and introduce scientific developments in seed, cotton, livestock, viticulture and other fields.
Following the meeting, the parties outlined the next steps to promote the discussed areas of cooperation. In the near future, a "Roadmap" for new investment projects and their implementation will be developed.
