Foreign tourists will be paid a compensation of $3,000 if they get infected with COVID-19 in Uzbekistan, according to a decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The document introduces the sanitary and epidemiological safety system - Uzbekistan. Safe Travel Guaranteed, which is aimed to become a kind of safety bag for foreign tourists.
The safe tourism fund will be set up, with some $2 million to be contributed from the Anti-Crisis Fund for its financing.
The Chairman of the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare, Ravshan Izamov, told Uzbekistan 24 TV channel that the local and international tourists should be confident that it is safe for them to travel.
"Travel firms, hotels and all those related to tourism industry will be issued special certificates provided they meet several requirements. Such certificate will allow them to accept with tourists," Izamov said.
The practice of payment of compensations to tourists is widely used in many countries of the world.
