On April 14, the newly appointed Uzbek ambassador to Azerbaijan, Bahrom Ashrafkhanov departed from Tashkent for Baku, the Foreign Ministry said.

Prior to this appointment, he had served as Executive Director of the Extrabudgetary Pension Fund under the Ministry of Finance.

Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, 50, is a graduate of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute (1990), the Tashkent State University of Economics (1993) and the University of Kentucky (USA, 1994).

From February to September 2019, he worked as Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Social Affairs, and earlier (since September 2018) – interim Chairman of Uzbekneftegaz. In 2016-2018, he was the Uzbek ambassador to Russia.
