The Ministry of Justice granted accreditation for a branch of Mercy Corps, a U.S. based non-profit organization, in Uzbekistan Monday, the ministry said.

The NGO’s declared main goals in Uzbekistan are to strengthen ties between private, state and public organizations to improve the living conditions of rural and urban households, as well as improve the quality of educational services.

The branch intends to implement a project to support balanced nutrition and infrastructure development in 410 preschools located in rural areas in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya province in 2020–2025.

The said preschools are scheduled to be overhauled, with the water supply and sanitation systems to be improved. The project is funded by the US Department of Agriculture.

The Corps of Mercy branch ceased operations in Uzbekistan over 10 years ago.
