Steps are being taken to declassify historical archives until 1917 stored in the state archives, and a secret program has been developed together with the State Security Service.
In September last year, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed decree ordering to declassify the archival files of before 1917 stored in state archives. The decree took the Uzarhiv Agency out of the Cabinet of Ministers and has set up a separate Uzarhiv Agency. The Agency, together with the State Security Service, was instructed to declassify these documents by June 1, 2020.
According to Uzarhiv director, Ulugbek Yusupov,an expert group including historians and lawyers will be formed and each document will be reviewed one by one and all documents that have no political status will be disclosed. The program will also include the World War II period (1941-1945).
