The joint meetings of the Jokargy Kenes (Supreme Council) of Karakalpakstan, provincial, district and city representative bodies will be held on January 16-17, at which elections of members of the Senate will be held.
Senators shall be elected in equal proportions - six people from Karakalpakstan, province and Tashkent city at th joint meetings of the Jokargy Kenes, provincial, district and city councils of people's deputies among the elected representatives by secret ballot.
The President appoints 16 senators from among reputed citizens “who have extensive experience and have proved themselves in science, art, literature, the production sphere and in other areas”.
The senators’ office term is five years. Only citizens of Uzbekistan who are 25 years of age and over on the day of the election and have been resident in Uzbekistan for the past five years can become a member of the Senate. The same person time cannot be a member of the Senate and a deputy of the Legislative Chamber.
