After a long hiatus, Andijan International Airport resumed operations, the State Committee for Tourism said. In line with the authorization from the Uzbek aviation authorities, on December 22, the Russian IrAero launched Moscow to Andijan flights on Superjet-100.
The Andijan airfield, which is one of the oldest transport hubs in the Ferghana Valley, was built in 1954. The last flight on the Andijan – Tashkent route was operated last October.
Earlier, Uzbekistan Airways said that the airport was in critical condition, it does not meet any standards, including the runway.
According to experts, the airport needs a new terminal, runway and other infrastructure.
