The chief off the CIS observer mission, the chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Sergey Lebedev recognized the Uzbekistan parliamentary and municipal elections on Sunday as “free, transparent and competitive" at a press conference yesterday.

The mission, which included 182 observers from 8 CIS member states, was deployed on November 26 and conducted monitoring in Uzbekistan’s 10 provinces.

On the election day, CIS observers visited 2,076 polling stations across the country. According to the head of the mission, the vote took place in a calm atmosphere with a high turnout.

He pointed out some shortcomings, but noted that these were isolated cases that were not widespread and did not affect the election results.

Based on the monitoring results, the mission concluded that the elections were held in full compliance with the requirements of the Uzbek Constitution and the Electoral Code.
