On December 6, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as part of the Technical Cooperation Program, approved four national projects for implementation in 2020-2021 in Uzbekistan total worth of over 1 million euros.

According to the Uzbekistan Embassy in Austria, the projects are aimed at building technical capacity and human resources, developing nuclear infrastructure, strengthening the nuclear and radiation safety of facilities for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Uzbekistan.

The project executors from Uzbekistan are Uzatom Agency, the State Committee for Industrial Safety, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the National University, Samarkand State University, and the Tashkent City Oncology Center.

The IAEA technical cooperation program provides for the strengthening of nuclear and radiation safety in the nuclear facilities in Uzbekistan, the development and implementation of modern nuclear technologies in medicine and other sectors of the economy, as well as the dissemination of nuclear knowledge.
