The Senate’s Committee Chairman Alisher Kurmanov, as part of his working trip to Germany, met with the Vice President German Bundestag, Hans-Peter Friedrich, the Senate said in a statement.
Hans-Peter Friedrich emphasized that the German parliament attaches great importance to the expansion of inter-parliamentary relations with Uzbekistan. According to him, in recent years, the Uzbek-German ties have been elevated to the level of deep strategic partnership ties. He also noted the importance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek delegation welcomed the decision of the German side to send Bundestag deputies as observers to the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan, including as part of the OSCE mission, the statement said.
At the same time, Hans-Peter Friedrich expressed intention to pay a working trip to Uzbekistan in 2020 to discuss the ways to further advance inter-parliamentary cooperation, exchange of experience on improving the effectiveness of parliament in the implementation of strategic domestic and foreign policies, including in terms of foreign economic relations.
In addition, the Uzbek delegation held a separate meeting in the office of the Federal Chancellor with the leadership and specialists of the key Department of Economic, Financial and Energy Policy.
The Deputy Director of the Department T. Winterth noted that the Federal Government attaches priority to the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
She added that the German Government has significantly increased the volume of financial and technical assistance to Uzbekistan, which is a clear signal of interest in further intensification of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
