Officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Security Service arrested in an operation an employee of the Altiaryk district branch of the Land Management and Real Estate Cadastre, E. M. and “other" persons who were extorting bribes in Ferghana province, the General Prosecutor’s office said.
The arrested persons demanded US$ 30 thousand from O. N., promising in return that the district mayor would issue resolution on allocation of 5 ha of land for gardening.
The officers caught them red-handedly while they were receiving US$ 22 thousand and 28.5 million soums.
A criminal case has been launched under articles 168 (Fraud), 28 (Complicity in a Crime) and 211 (Giving Bribe) of the Criminal Code, with investigation underway.
