A meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is taking place in Ashgabat. The leaders of the CIS countries are holding talks in a narrow format.
Addressing the leaders, Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed to the need to expand multilateral cooperation and drew special attention to promising areas of cooperation within the Commonwealth.
Uzbekistan considers the CIS as an effective platform for deepening practical partnerships, primarily for advancing trade and economic ties, promoting joint projects in various sectors, tapping transport, logistics and transit potential, strengthening security, and for cultural and humanitarian exchange. In recent years, the participation of our country in the organization has intensified significantly. This year, many CIS events have been held in Uzbekistan.
The leaders unanimously supported the decision to hand over the chairmanship in the CIS in 2020 to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
