One deputy principal and a driver in the Dangara district of the Ferghana province died in a traffic accident when they were heading to the provincial governor’s meeting to attend the overnight local government meeting. The accident occurred on September 29, at about 11 AM local time on the section of the A-373 highway passing through the city of Kokand.

Sources told the Tashkent Times that the victims left the Dangara district in a Chevrolet Nexia-1 to attend a meeting on religious issues held at the Ferghana governor’s meeting on the night of September 30.

They had to travel 90 kilometers to get to the provinceal administration, but the deputy principal of the 26th school, who was driving the car, fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a road light pole, our source said.

According to him, as a result of the accident, the driver and the deputy principal of the 38th school sitting in the front seat died on the spot, the deputy principals of the 24th and 27th schools who were in the back seat were hospitalized in serious condition.

Tashkent Ties were not able to get comments from the administrations of the Ferghana province and the Dangara district due to the fact that October 1 in Uzbekistan is an official day off.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the allegations that public education officers were heading to a night meeting in the provinceal governro’s office, but were going to Kokand on personal affairs.

A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of an accident and investigative actions are underway.
