The Former Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Otabek Murodov has been taken into custody, a source in the government told the Tashkent Times.
According to the source, on September 18 he was summoned for interrogation as part of the case against the former chief of the National Security Service, Ikhtiyor Abdullayev and from that day he has remained in custody.
His actions are currently being investigated in a criminal case against [Ikhtiyor] Abdullaev. The rest is par to of a secret investigation. At the moment I can not say more than that. As soon as we have an official commentary, we’ll immediately communicate it to you, the source added.
On June 21, during the Senate’s 20th plenary session, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that a criminal case was opened against the former Prosecutor General Otabek Murodov.
Murodov was appointed Prosecutor General in January 2018. Prior to that, he served as state adviser to the head of state.
Earlier it was also reported that along with Ikhtiyor Abdullayev a criminal case was opened against his deputy Jahongir Egamov.
