The second terminal of the Tashkent business aviation airport will be built by Swiss companies B&A Contractors S. A. and IT Engineering S. A., which are part of the Mabetex Group, the main contractor Uzbekistan Railways said.

The Terminal 2 Design and Construction Contract was signed in Tashkent between Uzbekistan Railways and the companies.

The business aviation airport in place of former Tashkent-Sharqiy (transl. Eastern) military airfield. The first terminal will be designed for meetings of heads of state, officials and delegations. The new airport will have two terminals. The first is designed for welcoming the heads of state and official delegations, the second is for business executives and other passengers. The cargo terminal will also function in the new air complex.

The 1,000 passenger per hour Terminal 2 will be constructed in the form of the mystical Humo bird (previously the Tashkent international airport’s fourth terminal was planned to be built in the form of the Humo bird, but the project was canceled).

The three-storied terminal will host a hotel, restaurants, shopping center, air ticket offices, exchange offices and other facilities. There will be zones for different class of passengers: Economy, CIP and VIP. The commissioning of the new airport is scheduled for September 2021.

The project is being implemented in pursuance of the June 30, 2017 Presidential decree. Earlier it was reported that the phase I of the project will be completed in 2020, with the construction of the runways ongoing.
