President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev today hosted the interior ministries of the Commonwealth of Independent States attending the events of the Council of Interior Ministers of the CIS in Tashkent.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, warmly welcoming the heads of the delegations of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, noted with satisfaction the growing bilateral and multilateral partnerships between law enforcement agencies of the Commonwealth states.
It was emphasized that today the Council of Interior Ministers of the CIS is an important mechanism for effective interaction, exchange of best practices and knowledge, as well as close coordination in the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime and human trafficking.
The Council’s performance is evidenced by the reduction of crimes in the Commonwealth by more than 25 percent over the past five years.
In addition, as part of joint operations, last year alone, 892 persons who were engaged in drug trafficking and 84 criminals were detained.
An exchange of views also took place on topical issues of regional security, including the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and the strengthening of the partnership in the fight against transnational crime.
The heads of delegations expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings on behalf of the heads of their states.
