US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad will visit the Uzbek capital of Tashkenton Wednesday in order to discuss prospects for intra-Afghan talks, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"On April 10, the US delegation headed by Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad will arrive in Tashkent," the statement said.
The parties will reportedly exchange opinions on launch of the mechanism of the intra-Afghan peace talks as well as discuss implementation of social and economic projects in Afghanistan initiated by Uzbekistan.
Afghanistan is suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to the activity of the Taliban movement and the Islamic State terrorist group. While the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are conducting joint offensive operations to combat terrorism across the country, Kabul and Taliban are trying to launch reconciliation talks.
In March 2018, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his country's readiness to create conditions for direct negotiations between Kabul and Taliban.
