Uzbek Defense Minister Bakhodir Kurbanov today hosted the US military delegation led by commander of the Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces General Joseph Votel, the Uzbek Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The parties discussed the ways to advance Uzbek-American cooperation in the field of defense and military education, strengthening ties in the military-technical spheres and exchanged views on resolving the situation in Afghanistan, preventing international terrorism and maintaining peace in the region.

On the same day, the Uzbek Minister of Defense held a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan led by the Chief of the General Staff of the Pakistani Ground Forces, Lieutenant-General Nadeem Raza.

The parties discussed issues of ensuring security in the Central Asian region, strengthening intergovernmental cooperation in the military and military-technical areas, as well as elevating the level of ties in the field of military education.

As reported earlier, the conference of the chiefs of the general staffs of the countries of Central and South Asia will be held in Tashkent on February 21, to be attended by the chiefs of staff of the armed forces of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the commander of the US Central Command Center.
