The Uzbekistan Labor Ministry hosted a meeting with the Working group of UNDAF, a Strategic Framework Program with the Government of Uzbekistan and UN system for social protection.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the Joint Program to further improve the welfare of people with disabilities in Uzbekistan for 2016-2020. Currently, a preparatory phase of the program, situation analysis is underway. A concrete set measures will be developed on the basis of this analysis then the best international expertise and resources shall be applied in such development areas as health care, education, employment and social protection of children and adults with disabilities in Uzbekistan.
Co-chairman of the Working Group, the Labour Minister, A. Abdukhakimov noted the the issues of well-being of people with disabilities are of special importance and are included in the State program (under development) "Year of Dialogue with People and Human Interests." One of the priorities of the State program set by the President is to create equal opportunities for all citizens.
Dr. Mojtahedi, UN disability expert presented a report on the analysis methodologies. At the end of her visit, she noted the progress in disability access in Uzbekistan, underscoring that the country can serve this as an example for other countries in the region.
The meeting was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, public organizations for disabled persons, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP, WHO and UNFPA.
