The trial behind closed doors against the former Prosecutor General Rashitjon Kadirov began in the Yunusabad district criminal court, a source in the Prosecutor General’s Office told Tashkent Times.
Closed court trials are allowed by law when it is required to keep a state or other secrets.
“The lawsuit was carried out confidentially. Since the case now went to trial, the issues of disclosing information are exclusively within the court’s jurisdiction,” said the head of Public Relations and Legal Information of the Prosecutor General Office Surayo Rakhmonova.
According to the source, the trial began on Monday at 10:00 AM simultaneously against all those involved in the case. Relatives of the defendants were not allowed in the courtroom. The next meeting will be held on January 9.
Rashitjon Kadirov was arrested in February 2018, and he is now facing Extortion, Abuse Of Power and Taking Bribe charges under the Articles 165, 205 and 210, respectively of the Criminal Code. Later, it was reported that charges were brought against another 24 persons within the case.
