President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will visit the Federal Republic of Germany on January 20-22. As part of preparation for the visit, Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, heading a government delegation to Berlin on November 8, 2018, met with the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, with whom he discussed the prospects of cooperation within Uzbekistan-EU format and touched upon the situation in Afghanistan. Minister Kamilov also met with the German Chancellor's Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Jan Hecker in Berlin.
Also, the Special Representative of the Uzbek President for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Markus Potzel, Special Representative of the Federal Government of Germany for Afghanistan and Pakistan, the foreign ministry said. The parties discussed the ways to attract financial resources to speed up the projects for construction of the Mazari-Sharif – Herat railway, the Surkhan – Poli-Khomri overhead lines, automobile roads and other infrastructure facilities in Afghanistan.
In 9 months of 2018, the bilateral trade turnover topped US$ 526 million, increasing by 13%.
