On December 23 was held the extraordinary session of Samarkand region deputies council, in which the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev made a statement, the Presidency website said.
On the President’s proposal Himmat Oqbutaev (born in 1962) has been elected as governor of Samarkand region, who from March served as the first deputy governor. Prior to that for 10 years, he had served as mayor of Urgut district in Samarkand region and deputy prosecutor of Navoi region and held various positions in the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan.
The previous governor of Samarkand region, Zoyirov Mirzaev was recently appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of agriculture and water economy.
