Former State Advisor to the President, chief of the Customs Committee Muidjon Tokhiriy has been arrested, the Prosecutor General's Office said.

For the purposes of the investigation, other information has not been disclosed.

Muidjon Tokhiriy twice held the position of the Deputy Chairman of the National Security Service (NSS) of Uzbekistan between 2006–2008 and 2011-2016. He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council/State Advisor to the then President Islam Karimov.

Tokhiriy, who worked as deputy chairman of the National Security Service, was also in charge of the Presidential Security Service.

In December 2016, Muidjon Tohiriy was appointed head of the Customs Committee but he was fired on February 12 of this year.
