The government of Uzbekistan has decided to invite a UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, the Director of the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov announced today.
“The government decided to invite the UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers. We will be working on inviting other special rapporteurs, as well, ”said Saidov, speaking at the final meeting of the Asian Forum on Human Rights.
Earlier this year, Saidov announced that each year Uzbekistan would invite one UN special rapporteur. According to him, 12 special rapporteurs sent requests to visit Uzbekistan.
