The former Ambassador at Large of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry Ilkhomjon Nematov has been appointed the First Deputy Foreign Minister, replacing Botirjon Asadov, who was posted to the Uzbek Ambassador to Russia role replacing Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, who was named chairman of UzbekNeftegaz.

Ilhomjon Nematov, 68, graduated from the Fergana Polytechnic Institute, and in 1992 the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Foreign Ministry.

From 1992 to the present, he held various positions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In particular, he worked as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to India, Russia, USA, Brazil and Canada. Since September 14, 2016 he served as Ambassador at Large.
