Uzbekistan ranks in the bottom of the English proficiency survey, showing the key competitive weaknesses of the Uzbek economy.
Out of 88 countries and territories where English is not the mother tongue, Uzbekistan is in 86th place – outdoing only Iraq and Libya, according to the EF English Proficiency Index, with Sweden topping the ranking.
The survey on adults was conducted by EF Education First with view that English is now a communication tool in the globalised world.
Uzbekistan schools, driven by the demands of society, are increasingly embracing English language learning, with English language study starting from grade 2.
