Children and Youth’s Ombudsman is set to be established Uzbekistan, the long-time director of the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan, Akmal Saidov said.

He noted that the President’s Decree of May 5, 2018 has approved a program of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“The program envisages a number of measures to enhance the effectiveness of the national human rights institutions. Thus, the issue of established the children and youth’s ombudsman was put on the agenda” Saidov said.

He added that the practical recommendations are being analyzed for the Uzbekistan’s accession to the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the principles of the juvenile crime prevention program.
