Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are actively working on creation of the “Central Asian Schengen zone”, an area foreigners could visit on a single visa.

The multi visa with Uzbekistan will soon be a reality, Maynura Mirzamadiyeva, chairperson of the tourism committee under Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports, said at a tourism fair in Tashkent Wednesday.

“This visa will ease travelling from one country to another. People, who come to Central Asia, want to travel not only to Kazakhstan but to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, too,” she said.

Uzbek Deputy PM Aziz Abduhakimov said the two countries were actively working on a common visa project, with other countries of the region expected to join the project.

The proposal to create “Central Asian Schengen” between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan has been brought up by the chairperson of Kazakhstan’s Senate Committee for International Relations, Defense and Security, Dariga Nazarbayeva. Later the Tajik government also showed its interest in it, too.
