Uzbekistan delegation led by Minister of Public Education Sherzod Shermatov held talks with U.S. Secretary of Education Elisabeth DeVos in Washington on Tuesday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The parties highlighted their interest in joint projects, including the opening of English medium schools in Uzbekistan.

The U.S. officials said they were ready, at initial stage, to assist in launching online training courses for teachers and afterwards to develop programs jointly with relevant U.S. universities.

The parties also discussed the ways to improve the management of educational processes in Uzbekistan schools, introduction of ITs, increase of pay and social support for teachers, and the models for financing school education.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to cooperate in the implementation of U.S. best practices in Uzbekistan’s school system.
