Elbek Shukurov has been appointed Tashkent city deputy mayor in charge of youth policy, social development and spiritual-enlightenment activities, replacing Shukhrat Bakiyev, who had served in this position since 2017, the mayor’s office said.

Elbek Shukurov, 30, graduated from the Tashkent Agrarian University (2009). He started in 2005 in the Kamolot Public Youth Movement, having worked for several years in various positions, including the chairman of the Tashkent city council. He was MP from the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and was the deputy chairman on youth issues.

Prior to his appointment in July 2017, he headed the Tashkent council of the Youth Union, was an adviser to the Tashkent mayor on youth issues.
