Urgench airport, closed since 16 July for technical reasons, is expected to re-open on August 10, the acting Khorezm governor Farkhod Ermanov said in his Facebook page.

Round-the-clock runway replacement works are now underway at the airport by Khorazm Yul ​​Qurilish, a state-owned construction company, with over 50 units of special equipment engaged.

On Wednesday, the governor visited the airport to get familiar with the ongoing works.

All Urgench bound flights will be diverted to Nukus and Bukhara. The airport will reopen after the of all maintenance works are completed. In a statement Khorezm governor office and the airport administration offered apologies for any inconvenience caused during closure.
